HostReply + OwnerRez: AI Guest Messaging for OwnerRez Hosts
HostReply connects to OwnerRez in minutes through a standard OAuth authorization — no API keys to copy, no manual data exports. Once you approve the connection, your properties, existing guest conversations, and reservation details sync automatically. From then on, when a guest messages you through Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking.com, or a direct booking routed through OwnerRez, HostReply sees it, looks up the live reservation and property data behind the question, and replies with an answer grounded in your actual data — or texts you first when the question needs a human decision.
OwnerRez is a channel-management and booking platform built for hosts and property managers who want direct control over pricing, contracts, and guest communication rather than a heavier all-in-one suite. HostReply adds a specialized AI messaging layer on top of it.
How the integration works
HostReply is an AI agent, not a template engine. The difference shows up in what happens before each reply gets written.
1. OwnerRez syncs your properties and reservations. Once you authorize the connection, HostReply pulls in your properties (amenities, house rules, check-in details), reservations, and guest conversations from OwnerRez. New messages and bookings sync automatically from then on — no manual re-import.
2. The AI looks things up before answering. Rather than generating a reply from memory, HostReply queries the live data your OwnerRez account exposes: the guest's reservation (dates, party size, status), the property record, your calendar availability, and your FAQs. Ask "can we check in early?" and the AI checks whether the night before is actually open before it answers — it doesn't guess.
3. Confident answers go out; uncertain ones escalate. If the AI can verify its answer against your data, it replies to the guest through OwnerRez within seconds, so the message appears in your OwnerRez inbox and on the booking channel like any message you'd send yourself. If the question needs judgment — a discount request, a complaint, an unusual ask — HostReply texts you a one-line summary instead. You reply by SMS in plain English, and the AI drafts the polished guest response from your answer. That SMS human-in-the-loop escalation is the core of how HostReply stays accurate: it's designed to never confidently tell a guest something false.
4. It learns your property over time. When guests keep asking the same question the AI had to escalate, HostReply detects the pattern and suggests a new FAQ. Approve it once and the question is handled automatically from then on.
You can also set boundaries for the whole system: rules about tone, when to share sensitive details like door codes and Wi-Fi passwords, what the AI must never handle alone, and which team member gets which type of escalation (maintenance to your handyman, complaints to your manager).
Setting it up
Setup takes about five minutes:
- In HostReply, go to Settings → Integrations.
- Click Connect on the OwnerRez card.
- In the modal that opens, click Connect with OwnerRez.
- Log in with your OwnerRez credentials and authorize the connection.
- HostReply syncs your properties and conversations automatically.
- Click Done.
That's the whole install. After the initial sync, spend a few minutes reviewing the property details HostReply pulled in, add any FAQs OwnerRez doesn't already know about (lockbox quirks, parking gotchas, your favorite local restaurants), and set your escalation rules. Most hosts are watching the AI answer real guest messages the same day.
There's nothing to configure on the OwnerRez side beyond the authorization itself — the connection handles syncing and message delivery automatically.
OwnerRez's Rezzy AI vs. adding HostReply
OwnerRez ships its own AI messaging feature, Rezzy AI, as a premium add-on (roughly $9/month per property since it launched in March 2026). Rezzy reads incoming guest messages, suggests or auto-sends replies on a schedule you configure (overnight auto-reply, draft-only during business hours, or fully custom timing), and turns messages into trackable tasks using your existing OwnerRez property settings. If you're an OwnerRez customer, it's worth trying — it's a genuinely useful native option with first-class access to your data.
HostReply exists for hosts who want to go further on messaging specifically. Because guest messaging is our entire product, we invest in depth that a booking-and-channel-management platform reasonably wouldn't prioritize:
- SMS human-in-the-loop escalation. When the AI is unsure, it doesn't send its best guess and it doesn't just leave a draft in an inbox — it texts your phone, you answer in a sentence, and it writes the guest reply. You stay in control without living in an inbox.
- Auto-learning FAQs. HostReply watches for repeated guest questions and proposes new FAQs, so coverage grows from real conversations instead of manual documentation.
- Team routing. Different escalation types go to different people by SMS, which matters once you have cleaners, handymen, or a co-host in the mix.
- One flat price, no add-on tier. Full autopilot, SMS escalation, and auto-learning FAQs are all included at $19/property/month — not layered on as a separate premium feature.
The honest framing: OwnerRez's AI and HostReply aren't enemies. Hosts who want AI assistance inside the tool they already use are well served by Rezzy. Hosts who want a dedicated messaging agent with a text-message escape hatch add HostReply on top. Plenty of hosts try both — the 14-day free trial makes that a zero-risk experiment.
What's automated vs. what stays human
HostReply handles automatically: routine questions (Wi-Fi, parking, check-in time, amenities, directions, local recommendations), answers verifiable against your OwnerRez data (availability, reservation details), scheduled lifecycle messages like check-in reminders, and repeated questions covered by your approved FAQs.
You stay in the loop for: anything involving money (discounts, refunds, fees), complaints and delicate situations, requests that need a decision (early check-in approvals, special accommodations), and anything your custom rules flag as human-only. In each case you get a text with context, reply in plain English, and the AI turns your answer into a professional guest message — and can remember it for next time.
Guest messaging automation isn't all-or-nothing; the goal is automating the repetitive 80% while making the remaining 20% take seconds instead of minutes. For the broader playbook, see our guide to automating Airbnb guest messages.
FAQ
Does HostReply work with OwnerRez?
Yes — OwnerRez is one of HostReply's two live PMS integrations (alongside Hospitable). The connection is a standard OAuth authorization: once you approve it, your properties, reservations, and guest conversations sync automatically, and the AI's replies are delivered to guests through OwnerRez so everything stays in your existing inbox. See all HostReply integrations for other platforms (Hostaway and Guesty are coming soon).
Does OwnerRez have AI messaging built in?
Yes. OwnerRez launched Rezzy AI, a built-in messaging and task-management assistant, as a premium add-on (roughly $9/month per property since March 2026). Rezzy reads incoming guest messages, drafts or auto-sends replies on a schedule you control, and turns messages into trackable tasks. It's a solid native option if you want AI help without leaving OwnerRez. HostReply is for hosts who want a dedicated messaging layer instead: SMS human-in-the-loop escalation, auto-learning FAQs, and team routing, included at every plan level rather than gated to an add-on.
How long does setup take?
About five minutes for the connection itself: authorize HostReply from your OwnerRez account via OAuth, and your properties, conversations, and reservations sync automatically. Add another 15–30 minutes to review synced property details, add FAQs, and set escalation rules. Most hosts have the AI answering live guest messages the same day.
Does HostReply see my OwnerRez calendar?
Yes — and that's a feature. Before answering questions like "can we check in early?" or "is the night before ours available?", the AI checks your live calendar availability so its answer reflects reality. Access is read-only for calendar data; the only thing HostReply writes back to OwnerRez is guest messages (and only the ones it's allowed to send under your rules).
What does HostReply cost for OwnerRez hosts?
$19 per property per month, flat — the OwnerRez integration, unlimited messages, SMS escalation, auto-learning FAQs, and team routing are all included. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial, no credit card required, so you can connect OwnerRez and watch the AI handle real conversations before paying anything.
Will guests know an AI is replying?
Replies go out through OwnerRez as normal messages from your account, written in the tone you configure. You control the voice, what the AI may share (door codes, addresses, Wi-Fi passwords), and what it must escalate. Many hosts also review the AI's replies during the trial period before switching to full autopilot.
